My love of fishing began at a very early age around 2 years old. Luckily, I had parents who fished and instilled a love of the sport throughout my childhood. I grew up fishing bass, pickerel, panfish, trout, and catfish, with quite a few saltwater fishing trips thrown in the mix too. After college and a couple years in the workforce, I moved to Minnesota and have enjoyed the vast fishing and hunting opportunities.
Throughout my fishing career and tournament participation, I have developed a love-affair with all types of fish. That is why I am a multi-species fishing guide, offering guide trips for walleye, muskie, bass, pike, and panfish. So far, I have caught 70 species of fish in my lifetime (48 in freshwater, 22 in saltwater), which I believe helps you become a better angler. Through hard work and planning, my fishing adventures have reached from the pristine streams of Pennsylvania to the rich lakes of Minnesota and Canada to breathtaking mountain rivers in the Swiss Alps and the wild jungle of the Amazon.
Not only do I have a passion for fishing, but I enjoy teaching it to youth. Toward that end I founded the Lakeville Fishing Team with a couple of students to provide year-long fishing education, conservation, and tournaments for middle school and high school students. The club is well respected and has earned multiple honors, broad community support, and many excellent tournament performances. During much of the school year, I am still heavily involved with this initiative.
Recently I formed a partnership with Alumacraft Boat Company to serve as their Youth Ambassador. I help launch and develop new fishing teams, as well as evaluate potential partnerships to provide youth fishing opportunities nationwide. Alumacraft’s motto is “Families. Fishing. Forever.” – which embodies the spirit of my involvement with youth for many years.
I launched Sunset Glow Guide Service to share and teach my passion and hopefully provide you with some great memories along the way. I believe in families, youth, and lifelong passions like fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities that warm your soul and enlighten your day. Lake Vermilion is my home and guiding base whenever there is open water in Minnesota, but I also offer trips to Lake of the Woods which is another favorite of mine. I look forward to spending a day on the water with you!
Much like my Dad, I have been fishing since I could hold a fishing pole. I learned how to cast at age 2 in the backyard of our first house. We took many family fishing trips of which I have fond memories. Like the first walleye I caught at 2 years old which my grandfather insisted on getting mounted (it would have been a good eater). Like the first trout I landed in a stream in southeast Minnesota and the first muskie I landed on a Twin Cities lake before I was 10.
I have always been fond of the water, learning how to swim at a very early age and then becoming a lifeguard, swim instructor, and certified scuba diver. As I got older, my competitive spirit grew and I began competing in local adult fishing tournaments while still in high school. When my Dad formed the Lakeville Fishing Team for the high school, I became very involved with their activities and tournaments. I competed in over a dozen high school bass tournaments, placing well in several of them. I am also a two-time State High School Muskie Tournament angler on Lake Vermilion and finished 2nd place in one of those tournaments. Lake Vermilion quickly became my favorite lake to fish.
My Dad introduced me to fly fishing when I was a teenager and it has become my passion! I have caught many species on the fly, including aggressive Peacock Bass in the Amazon jungle and hard-fighting Smallmouth on Lake Vermilion. But, there is nothing like the adrenaline rush of catching a muskie on the fly. I’d love to share that passion with you and make a memory you’ll never forget.
When I’m not guiding on beautiful Lake Vermilion, I am studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. And, you guessed it, I am a member of their Bass Fishing Team and Fly-Fishing Club.
